Μανόλης Τριανταφυλλίδης. Ο αγωνιστής γλωσσολόγος Πριν από 137 χρόνια, στις 15 Νοεμβρίου του 1883, γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα ο γλωσσολόγος και αγωνιστής δημοτικιστής, Μανόλης Τριανταφυλλίδης. Η μητέρα του καταγόταν από τη Χίο και ο πατέρας του από την Κοζάνη. Ο Τριανταφυλλίδης φοίτησε στη Φιλοσοφική Σχολή της Αθήνας, στο καθαρευουσιάνικο κλίμα της οποίας συνάντησε σπουδαίους δασκάλους. Με το πτυχίο της Φιλοσοφικής Αθηνών και ένα βιβλίο ήδη στο ενεργητικό του (Ξενηλασία ή ισοτέλεια) εγκαταστάθηκε το 1905 στη Γερμανία για τις μεταπτυχιακές του σπουδές. Στα διαλείμματα της σπουδαστικής του δραστηριότητας στο Μόναχο και στη Χαϊδελβέργη, επισκέφθηκε σχολεία της Ελβετίας και της Αγγλίας και περιόδευσε στη Θεσσαλία, για να αποκτήσει αυτοψία της εκπαιδευτικής πραγματικότητας. Το 1908 αναγορεύθηκε διδάκτορας της Γλωσσολογίας, αλλά παρέμεινε στη Γερμανία μέχρι το 1912, συνεχίζοντας τις σπουδές του.
